Outcome of the 2015 Annual General Meeting held at Duimpies Hangar – 18 Feb 2015

Welcome/apologies:

Peter du Toit welcomed all that were present and thanked them for their attendance, thanks to Colin Frost too, for his hospitality. Mel read out all the apologies.

Review of 2014:

Peter then gave an outline of the 2014 year and Passion for Speed International at Zwartkops and Killarney in January – February.
The Legends of the 9 Hour series – 1958 to 1974 represents the Golden Age of Motor Racing not only for South Africa but also Internationally. An age of care free motor racing which is characterised by speed alone, huge variety relatively low technology and public support.
The Legends series has grown from 7/12 cars in 2002 to a register of over 220 at the end of 2014.
There are however, some serious challenges ahead in respect of running costs, the availability of suitable cars and spares, and logistical support at away races. Sponsorships are also becoming increasingly difficult to procure as enterprise, operating margins decline which
results in cost cutting and social responsibility issues taking preference. These are all issues which we need to address in setting key objectives for the future of the series.
Our Passion for Speed festival at Zwartkops was very successful. It may just rank as the most successful event in South Africa in 2015.
Killarney, although successful, did not have the impact of volume of entries at Zwartkops but did produce good motor racing.
Our biggest threat is cost and our cars that are being sold to International participants.

The way forward:

The budgeted cost of running the series is at approx R300k in 2015

Sponsors:

Big thanks to SKF, Castrol, Hollard and Marlboro Crane hire for their assistance at the International and thanks to SKF for their continuous support.
