There will be no less than five Ford GT40's at Zwartkops on January 28th. The icon Ford GT40 won Le Mans five times and also won the SA 9 Hour – in Mirage form in 1968. This is the car that beat Ferrari at their own game in the world Endurance Championships in the golden 1960's.
Six Austin Healey 3000's to contend the SA Tourist Trophy at Zwartkops. One of the Sports cars which took the world by storm in the 1950's and 1960's, A production sports car which was equally at home on road and track. The big Healey was raced extensively in Europe and USA. It was probably the most famous British sports car in the world in its time. It is still famous and to have 6 of these big cars at Zwartkops is a real and very rare privilege. In the South African 9 Hours, John Love/ Brian Phaff came second in a "4" in 1958 and then Bobby Olthoff entered the most famous Le Mans Healey of them all DD300 in the 1962 9 Hour and with Tony Maggs finished 2nd overall. This Healey also raced at Zwartkops in 1962.
A Famous BRM is racing at Zwartkops International. One of the most famous BRM's will be entered and raced by Andrew Wareing at Zwartkops on the 28th January. This BRM, the P261 of 1964 and 1965 with 21 top six point finishes in the period. The model was one of the most successful BRM's ever and was raced by world champion Sir. Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill. In 1964 the American ace Ritchie Ginthes achievd 8 top 10 finishes.
Porsche 917's at Zwartkops on 28th January. One of the most dangerous racers ever to make an appearance when they first appeared in 1969 Porsche however, soon corrected the situation and the Porsche 917 won the greatest sports car events in the world including Le Mans in 1971. The original 25 cars built are now priceless collector's items, however at Zwartkops on the 28th we should have at least 3 of the tribute cars competing in the Pre'1974 International Sports Racing Prototypes event. Peter Bailey, Rui Campos and the Lucky Strike 917.
Big Lola's in action at Zwartkops on 28th January. John Love described the Lola T70 Coupe as the most practical and affordable big time racer. The Lola was certainly a force in the world sports car championships of the late 1960's. In Europe it was a winner in sports sprint races, but long distance always a problem as European races dictated that cars were to run on pump fuel. This resulted in engine reliability problems. In the USA it was quite a different matter at the big Lola's finished first and second at the Daytona 24 Hours in 1969.
At Zwartkops we should have at least four Lola's – two open Sports car versions and two MK3 Coupes. Roman de Beer should be the fastest of the Lola's in the Genie dark green car.
Famous Cooper returns to Zwartkops. The only F1 Cooper type T71/73 with a Ford engine with surprising agility in the hands of Alan Bailey at Zwartkops on the 28th January. It will see the multi cylinder BRM as its main challenger.
