Passion for Speed – Piper Race Day in Top Gear at Zwartkops from Friday to Sunday – 27/28/29 January 2017

A celebration of speed with some of the greatest racing cars and motorcycles from the Golden Age of motor racing.

Saturday's (28th) race programme has some 23 events with the focus on:

• The big V8 American icons of the sixties, headed by one of the greatest names in South African motorsport – Sarel vd Merwe in the big red Galaxie. Sarel will have to deal with Hennie Groenewald in the blue Plymouth, Leeroy Poulter in the Black Widow Chev BelAir, the du Toit brothers, Ferdi van Niekerk Jnr in the Yellow Banana (Galaxie), Paulo Cavalieri in the grey Galaxie. From Holland comes Michiel Campagne in the white Galaxie. 15 big V8 icons including Willie Hepburn in a Studebaker, Mouton in the Silver Hawk. Sight, sound, colour and heart stopping motor racing.
• The International Sports Racing Club which celebrates 20 years (16 Zwartkops) of coming to South Africa will be the fastest historics of the day (they maybe historic, but the leading cars are still without modern technology - racing at speeds which equal to our contemporary cars). This exciting field of cars will include a Can-Am tribute car, international Chevrons, McLarens, GT40's, Porsche 917's, Lolas etc.
• The SA Tourist Pre'1966/68 has McLarens, Lolas, Ford GT40's, Daytonas, Cobras, Ginetta.
• The under 2 litre class (U2) of the Pre'1966 Saloons is a battle between Mini's, Alfas, Lotus Cortinas, Volvo and BMW.
• A unique event will be for Pre'1966/68 Production Sports & GT racing cars - six, yes six Austin Healeys, TVR, Morgan, E-Type Jaguars.
• A special Pre'1984 historic/classic Production cars are expected to draw over 60 entries. The leading cars here should be Comaro's, BMW, Mustangs. (From Europe and South Africa)
• Historic single seaters, Pre'1974 which has a special BRM, ex works Cooper plus the more modern Wings and Slicks series.
• The Pablo Clark Ferrari Challenge has an amazing array of prancing horses, headed by (no doubt), Jaki Scheckter.
• The contemporary Extreme Supercars will have some very unique and first time seen in South Africa cars on the line raced by our leading racers.

The Passion for Speed is a very special motor racing event. Not to be missed. Unique, plenty of action, family entertainment, plus motor racing at its best with icon drivers and cars simply doing their best - 23 events, over 300 entries.
