Extreme Racing Festival returns to its Traditional Home

Local motorsport’s Extreme Festival will return to its original home next Saturday, (August 9) with the fifth round of the 2014 series taking place at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria.
SuperHatch Kawasaki ZX10R Masters
Top billing on a full programme will belong to the G&H Transport Extreme Supercar category, with an impressive variety of exotic machinery to tackle two races. Fighting for podium places should be people like Deon du Plessis (BPT KTM X-Bow), Nicky Dicks (Curvent Porsche GT3), Thomas Reid (C3 Engineering Porsche RSR), Lee Thompson (G&H Transport BMW 135), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430), Willem van der Westhuizen (C3 Engineers Ferrari 360) and Christo Lotter (Exceed Gears Porsche 996 Cup).
Close behind should be Ricky Giannoccaro (G&H Transport BMW M3 GT3), Andre’ van der Merwe (Evapco Porsche RSR), George Avvakoumides (Ocean Basket Porsche RSR), Mark du Toit (TAR Audi A4), Sun Moodley (Bigfoot Express Porsche GT3) and Paul hill (Kalex BMW 335i).
The Goldwagen Northern Bolt & Tool Superhatch races should see Brett Garland (Jonnesway Honda Civic) grappling for victories with, Geoff Tugwell (Tugwell Tooling Golf), Mark du Toit (TAR Honda Civic), Jacques Joubert (SPAR Peugeot 206), and fresh out of their previous round wins in class B Stuart Konig Northern Bolt & Tool Peugeot 206 and in class C Mel Spurr G & H / Castrol Opel Corsa.
Thunderbikes Formula Vee
Stewart MacLeod (Red Star ZX10R) will be the man to beat in the Red Square Kawasaki Masters Cap events. His closest adversaries should be Graeme van Breda (VBD Motorcycles ZX10R), Gavin Lightfoot (KMSA ZX10R), Brian Bontekoning (Jaguar Power ZX10R), Andre van Vollenstee (Stunt SA ZX10R), and Robbie Breakspear (Transport.co.za ZX10R).
Greg Wilson (Reflex Solutions Forza) will head up the Hankook Formula Vee grid, challenged by people like Jaco Shriks (Office Direct Rhema), Gert van den Berg (BP Nantes Rhema), Symm Grobler (Rhema), Peter Hills (Renexcon Rhema) and Alan Holm (Laserprint Rhema).
The Speed & Sound 111 Sports and Saloon Car races will see more than 40 cars taking to the tarmac. Possible overall winners should include Lucas Bezuidenhout (Toyota Alzetta), George Economides (Wealth Avenue Golf), Ryan Quan-Chai (TAR BMW M Coupe), and Adrian Dalton (Xtra Shoes VW Golf)
Extreme Supercars Extreme Festival
Not formally part of the series, but able to add much excitement will be two BMW CCG races, with some 30 cars on the grid. Top contenders will include Mish-al Singh (Tune-Tech BMW M3), Carlo Gabini (Kimbno Coffee BMW M3), Manny Ribeiro (MBS Carriers BMW M3 GTR), Tony Martin (Backdraft Toyota), Martin Wright (Backdraft Chevrolet) and Brian Penney (Mr Browns Nissan 350Z).
Greg Gildenhuys should win both of the day’s Thunderbike races on his BMW HP4. Chasing him should be people like Heinrich Rheeder (CABAC BMW), Jesse Boshoff (Triumph Daytona), Brandon Goode (CJ Auto Kawasaki), Etienne Nelson (Cabac BMW), Darian Kaizer ((uncle Andy Kawasaki), and Anthony Shelley (Fergor Kawasaki).
Finally, the Brunch Run Challenge will provide a wide variety of machinery, with top people expected to be Tristan Nelson (Truimph Daytona), Divan Bierman (Yamaha), Jarrod Luck (Modrac Kawasaki) and Ferdinand Frederick (Emban BMW).
The racing apart, Zwartkops will offer a wide range of activities for patrons, starting with a beer garden and live on-stage entertainment throughout the day. The kart circuit will host head to head gymkhana driving in the morning, for which you can enter your road car, plus kart rides in the afternoon.
The skidpan will hold gymkhana competitions in the afternoon, while the paddock will feature a Sound quality show between some of the most expensively kitted car sound systems in the country. Kiddies entertainment will include stilt walkers, face painting and balloon sculpting, while a number of stalls will sell motoring and non motoring related stuff.
All of this adds up to a great days racing and festival!
