| Round two of the Comsol VW Challenge, takes place at Pretoria’s Zwartkops Raceway on Friday 21st March and has all the ingredients of a thriller. |

| With an expected entry of almost 40, the 2.4km long track is going to be busy and there will be closely fought entertainment throughout the field in both races. Zwartkops is a tight track and overtaking has to be carefully executed because the opportunities don’t come often. Qualifying at this track is perhaps more important than at any other venue. However, a cold track offers little grip which means the 8:00am qualifying session is bound to be a fascinating 12-minutes. |

After qualifying, the opening Comsol VW Challenge race is scheduled to start at 10:35 and race two gets underway at 14:20.

| Following an eventful opening round at Midvaal in February, James Hurley (The Starter Pack Company Polo) leads the title race by a solitary point from Darren Nathan (Sextrader Polo). They are fairly well clear of a mighty scrap for third place where Francois van Zyl (Jesus Saves Golf1) and Waldie Meintjies (Performance Masters/Marty’s Panelbeaters Polo) are locked on 16-points apiece. |
| Fifth place currently belongs to Elke van Vledder (Mrs Golf1) and she is only one point behind the fight for third. She won’t be able to relax for a moment though as young Lyle Ramsay (VW Polo) is right behind her despite running on a shoestring budget. |
| The fight for seventh has reigning champion Henry van Vledder (Golf 11), Gerhard Henning (Toyota Replacement Parts Polo), Rory Atkinson (Comsol Polo) and Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Golf1) all locked on 13-points. |
| Of course, with only one round behind them, the situation is likely to be very different after Zwartkops. |
The Classes
|
| Class A cars are powered by the 2.0L 16V FSI engine fitted with reprofiled camshafts and modified throttle bodies. The FSI cars have proved to be faster than cars competing in the national championship Engen Volkswagen Cup so it may come as a surprise to learn that they race on intermediate 15 inch Dunlop Direzza tyres. Only newer generation Volkswagen models like the Golf 4/5/6, Beetle and new generation of hatchback Polos are eligible and minimum weight is 1075kgs. |
| Class B cars use the proven 8v long block 2.0L engine with limited modifications. Older model VW’s are eligible for this class so there’s a mix of Golf, Fox, Jetta 1 / 2 /3 / 4, Polo Classic and new generation of hatchback Polos. Minimum weight is 1050 Kg and the Dunlop Direzza tyre is also used. |
| Class C is the entry level cost effective class of the series and caters for the more standard and older generation type cars. Golf, Fox, Jetta 1 / 2 /3, Polo Classic and Playa. Power comes from the 8v Long Block 2.0L engine with very few modifications allowed. In a bid to keep costs to an absolute minimum cars use the treaded 15 inch Achilles road tyre. Like class B, minimum weight is 1050kgs. |
