Legends Production Cars and Little Giants

We had 20 cars entered for the first round of our Championship. The two Mustangs of Franco and Thomas looked awesome on track, however Jonathans Nova was not going to let them have it all their own way, plus Mark on the re-engined (per 2014 Regs) Biscayne which was 1.6 seconds a lap slower than the Nova, a combination of aerodynamics, weight and handling. Unfortunately the Falkiner Mustang, having qualified second on the grid broke a timing chain and was out, so it was up to Franco and Jono to slug it out.

Slug it out they did and they put on a magnificent performance up front, both setting lap times within 0.02 of each other! Franco won – the Mustang holding up better than the Nova on the uneven track surface. Jonathan who had the problem of ‘second race’ tyres and they deteriorated rapidly in the second heat causing vicious understeer in the tighter part of the circuit. Mark had a disappointing day as the Midvaal bumps broke his gearbox mounting resulting in the loss of 1st and 2nd gears.

Shaun Cabrita’s Alfa Ti is really magnificent as he headed the rest of the field home. Larry Davies won class X with relative ease after Gino Allasio had to withdraw after oil pressure problems in practice (pity). Frank Copping’s revised (detuned) Renault Dauphine took class honours as did Roger Houston, Gary Stacey, Paul Pereira, the crowd really loved this little BMW which hardly slowed for the corners, and Clive Winterstein in his Porsche 356A, the uneven surface caused all sorts of problems for some of the competitors.

The bumps resulted in electrical components vibrating loose which put out both the Darts of Chad Ten Doeschate (who was ahead of the LITTLE giants pack), and Ishmael Baloyi a loose ignition wire and old stalwart John Simpson in the yellow Alfa GT, Chris Visagie put up a brave show in his little Anglia.

Next race with all the Legends categories competing is at Zwartkops on the 12th of April 2014.

Please try to attend the meeting at Duimpies Hangar on Tuesday the 1st of April 2014. There are some important aspects of Legends that need to be discussed as we go forward.
