Heading up the Shelby entry list at Zwartkops will be Alan Eve (Shelby – Pilot Pens). Unfortunately Alan had some technical problems at the last meeting at Phakisa and only scored points in race 1, having had to retire in race 2 due to engine failure. Alan is still in the lead of the SA Sports and V8 Supercars Championship, being 10 points ahead of Ben Morgenrood (V8 Mustang), who had a better race weekend in Phakisa. Rui Campos (Shelby – Liqui Moly) makes a welcome return after sitting out for a couple of races, and he will want to try to beat his personal best lap record at Zwartkops that was set in 2013 with a best lap of 01:02.287.
A points-hungry pack of Shelby drivers will be doing some serious chasing indeed, with Craig Shorter (Shelby – Hollard/Trojan Racing), currently lying third in the Shelby championship being very hungry for a win. Alister Brown (Shelby – NAC Helicopters) had some mechanical problems in race 1 at Phakisa after an race incident and tangle with a V8 Supercar and needed to retire. Fritz Kleynhans (Shelby – Comenius) has scored consistently at the last 3 race meeting will be aiming to improve his lap times from last year, as he did not race in the first round. Two newcomers are Mark Lauth (Shelby –Black Chrome), who bought Sean Greve’s Shelby and he has been hard at work learning the track by practicing regularly and improving his times, and he will be hoping to score points on his debut.
The Shelby Can-Am class is a one-make formula powered by Nissan 3.5 litre V6 engines and running on Avon tyres.
