Kawasaki ZX10R Masters Cup

Gobble, gobble……that’s me having to eat my words. In the prior article for Phakisa I said that “the 2013 frontrunners are still the ones to beat” and now it seems that Graeme van Breda and Kyle Robinson have staked their claim for a shot at the coveted Masters Cup Title. Race one saw Stewart Mcleod take the lead, followed by Gavin Lightfoot, Kyle Robinson, Pieter de Vos and Graeme van Breda. Having to make his way forward from a bad start Graeme managed to squeeze by everyone except Stewart Mcleod who held on for a well-deserved win. With Graeme van Breda finishing 2nd and Kyle Robinson taking 3rd place overall, followed by Gavin Lightfoot who had to make up time after an off track excursion saw him fall back two places.
Race two was high action with Stewart Mcleod once again leading but followed very closely by a big pack consisting of Gavin Lightfoot, Graeme van Breda, Kyle Robinson and Pieter de Vos. With everyone jockeying for position and pushing those ZX10R’s and Bridgestone tyres to the absolute limit, Stewart Mcleod once again managed to just hold out to Graeme van Breda and Gavin Lightfoot, finishing in that order.

Results for race two at Phakisa: Class A Stewart Macleod 1st (46), Graeme van Breda 2nd (41), Kyle Robinson 3rd (18). Class B saw Gavin Lightfoot (32) taking 1st place, Pieter de Vos (19) 2nd, and Stuart Russel (83) taking 3rd place. Huge celebrations in the Russel camp with his best ever finish and very much deserving for this avid rider who absolutely enjoys the thrill of racing.
Next upcoming action is round 3 at Kyalami. “Kyalami” how long will that legendary name still be heard, the screaming of motorcycles down the mine shaft, the fantastic elevation changes like no other track in the country and the heart pounding thrill of watching the racers tear up the track. Maybe the powers that be should declare it a “NATIONAL HERRITAGE SITE” and preserve this diamond for future generations to enjoy.

With Graeme van Breda and Kyle Robinson having made their intentions clear, series stalwarts, Stewart Mcleod, Gavin Lightfoot and Pieter de Vos will have their hands full come Kyalami for sure! With most of the racers turning up for a track day prior to race day making it look like a ZX10 Masters Cup event, showed just how serious they are taking the race, at this internationally acclaimed track.
