| True to the era in which they were created the “Ducktail” Chevron B8 made a huge impact in the world sports car racing. |
| Designed by Derek Bennet in 1965 the car was not only unique in design but practical and relatively cheap to run. A very effective racing car from clubman’s right through to the more professional teams. |
| South African first made contact with the B8 Chevrons in the 1968 Nine Hour when car designer and owner arrived in South Africa with two B8’s. Brian Redman / Tim Schenhen finished 4th overall (against the might of Ferrari, Ford GT40’s, Lola etc.) the second come home 7th. |
| The B8 being what it is (Practical and affordable) soon attracted the attention of South Africans and we soon had a number in the country – Dennis Joubert, Jack Holme, John Rowe etc. There was also a B8 in Zimbabwe. |
| The Holme and Joubert B8’s more than held their own in the Springbok Series for a good number of years. |
| At Zwartkops in the Castrol SA Tourist Trophy in January there is a U.K. entered very quick and effective B8 BMW, who will be supported by the black B8 BMW the car which just missed winning the TT in the hands of Hennie Groenewald and Jonathan du Toit in 2011. |
| There is off course the red Chevron B8 of Jonathan du Toit which will race with the ISP cars. This B8 has a 1.8litre BDA engine and over the years has not only won a great many races but always puts up a competitive performance. The Little B8’s were raced mainly with 2 litre BMW engines but then there were a few which had 1.6 Kent BDA, BDG and even one with a F1 Repco engine! |
