Legends U2 and LITTLE Giants put on a great event.

We had a great day with some 22 entries (the biggest field of the day) and we did not disappoint with competitive racing in all the classes.

The day was full of surprises… Marc Miller showed us just how competitive he is in the beautifully prepared 1965 Alfa Giulia. This driver holds the leading edge in U2+. Carel Pienaar is equally as good in his well-prepared Lotus Cortina and just as competitive is Vic Campher’s Volvo 122’s. Do not discount Roger Houston in his Alfa Giulia.

Unfortunately, the blue Volvo had gearbox problems. In heat 1 Marc showed the way with the unrated BMW of Jonathan fighting his way through. In heat 2 Marc fought with the BMW only to go wide toward the end of the race putting the Houston Alfa in contention followed by Carel. It is the class to watch with five U2+ cars being within 0.5 seconds of each other.

With U2+ promotions the U2 class was made up with Francesco Lombardi and Mark du Toit’s Alfa GT’s. They were as close as you can get to the U2+ Cars. More will be joining this class shortly. This is good racing…

The LITTLE Giants were not to be outdone with two Cortinas, three Alfa GT’s, two Mini Coopers all within 0.7 seconds of each other. This was something to see shear variety and competitive racing. Gary Stacey won both overall and Index of Performance.

Then Class B: Mark van Rooyen and Brian Rowling’s Anglia’s. John Ten in the resurrected Grand Central Protea (Upgrade Ford Engine but still standard suspension and steering). Andre de Kock in the black Dart and Ishmael Baloyi in the diminutive Mini Marcos. The Protea won but not for long. The Mini and Anglia’s are coming.

The smallest class was the Porsche 356 of Clive Winterstein and Chad Ten in the Austin Metropolitan. These very unique cars were followed by Vincenzo Casilla’s Alfa GT AM. A big welcome to him and a highly competitive contribution when sorted.

This was a great event with a lot more to follow.
