The next round of the 2015 Inland Championship will return to the Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday 25 July 2015.
The cold winters track is expected to be heated up by the close racing produced by this series.
Categories on the day will include: Big Boss Auto Super Saloons, Yokohama Modified Production Cars, Midvaal Historics, Sports Racing Association, Formula Monoposto, SA Mechanical Seals Alfa Trofeo Racing, 250 Superkarts, Liqui Moly Legends Championship and Silver Cup Racing Series.
They will be joined by the popular bike racing categores; Silverton Bolt & Nut Challenge and Sub10 Superbikes.
At the start of the year we believed the “Class of 2015” would be the Super Saloons with the introduction of the new GTA Class to what was already a very successful series. The added atmosphere of the V8s joining the slightly noisy Rotaries did not disappoint.
A big surprise to everyone was Amos Cockeram Junior taking to the big V8’s as a duck to water. From his very first outing he was able to mix it with the best, Big Ben Morgenrood, Willie Hepburn, the Italian Stallion Franco Di Matteo (Champion 2014 and current championship leader) and the interloper, Matty Martins. Close exciting racing can be expected throughout the various Classes.
The biggest surprise of 2015 comes from our Yokohama Modified Production Cars Brigade, with new competitors joining the field at every event. Watch out for Brendon Hall in the Class A JDM Tuning Honda hunting down the Class T cars of Chris Hoy and Devin Robertson.
The fast growing Midvaal Historics leader board continues to excite and entertain the crowds with extremely close racing. Wentzel Nortman is leading with 73 points, closely followed by Mae vd Westhuizen on 63 points. Shawn Smidt is standing on 59 points and Henry Vos on 57 points. Hot on their heels is Johan van den Heever also with 57 points. We can expect a full field of cars and action packed racing.
Formula Monoposto, being the only single seater category on the day, has a large mix of cars. The Formula M’s and Formula Libras cars have their own internal battles. Martin Posthumus and Charles Williamson are the young guns to watch out for.
The SA Mechanical Seals Alfa Trofeo Racing series will see the family pairings of the Theobald’s, the Baartman’s and the Hendriks’ do battle. Jose De Carvalho, Ralph Kernes and Colin Ellison will add to the exciting wheel-to-wheel racing action. The new sprint race format adopted by this series has proven to work well and is now the way forward for this category.
The 250 Superkarts, being the fastest vehicles on track, will see Team Ziegler Racing currently leading the championship on 102 points do battle with Team Kempston Racing on 101 points in a close second place. Hot Dog Racing, Q2 Racing and Boating International will all be hoping for a podium finish on Saturday as well.
Devin Robertson, INEX Legends World Champion and SA Champion in 2014, is leading the Liqui Moly Legends Championship on 2580 points. Next in line is Llewllyn Myburgh on 2230 points, Seef Fourie on 2215 points and Willie Erasmus on 1945 points. Their three racing heat format will ensure adrenalin pumping racing from lap one!
SilverCup Racing, one of the oldest series with a huge variety of cars and super close racing, will see the likes of Freek Blignaut, Adrian Dalton, Kevin Paynter and Andre de Lange do battle for top honours. The field consists of Honda’s, Ford’s, Mazda’s, Datsun’s, a Subaru STI and a number of Spaceframed vehicles.
Frontrunners Stephan Schlebusch in Silverton Bolt & Nut Class C, Coen Erasmus, Hennie Swanepoel, Deon de Beer and Hendrik Erasmus will put on a spectacle again with seventeen entries. The Sub10 Superbikes category has eight entries with Ferdinand Frederick, Shaun Vermaak and Dirk Stols leading the pack.
